The University of North Bengal is a state level university located in Raja Rammohanpur near Siliguri in Darjeeling district, West Bengal. It was established in 1962 under the Act of the Legislature of West Bengal 1962. The motto of establishment was fulfilling higher education and research to the people of socio-economically backward area and to encourage for higher education to meet the growing needs of society with the instruction for training and research in various branches. Now It has second campus located in Danguajhar in Jalpaiguri district.
Main campus of university spreads on area of nearly 330 acres covering the land at the foothills of high Himalaya with a fascinating glimpse of the Kanchenjunga peak, tea gardens and forest cover. The university has enrollment of more than 35,000 undergraduate and more than 1,500 postgraduate students and scholars for different courses. Many colleges are affiliated to university for courses.
